The SSD Timeline
- Initial application — Can take up to six months. If your application is rejected, we will apply for reconsideration.
- Reconsideration — Can take an additional 45 days to nine months. If your reconsideration is rejected, we will apply for a hearing.
- Hearing — Possibly will take over 2 years before a hearing occurs
- Hearing decision — Will take between two and nine months. If your hearing fails to secure benefits, we will file an appeal with the appeals council.
- Appeals Council — This can take an additional six to nine months. Failure to secure benefits at this level calls for an appeal in federal court.
- Federal District Courts — Will likely take between an additional six and 18 months to resolve from filing.
- United States Court of Appeals — We can appeal your district court decision, if need be.
